Director/actress Madi Distefano and the crew from Brat Productions last week carted buckets of live cockroaches into the South Philly warehouse that is the site for their world premiere of Haunted Poe, an Edgar Allan Poe-themed haunted house/theatrical event opening tomorrow.

Brat contracted with the Insectarium in Northeast Philly to breed 1,000 cockroaches for the production, but nature worked its course and the Brat team received about 4,000 of 'em. After the show, they will not be squished underfoot but trucked back to the Insectarium.

Brat also has a container of Madagascar hissing cockroaches. In an artistic twist, Isaiah Zagar of the Magic Gardens and Distefano's sister, Stefanie Distefano, will attend the opening to paint and sell them. Supposedly they make great pets.
