The Production Manager on a project like Haunted Poe is more than a "pretty big" job. It's a job of epic proportion. Brian R. Chacon's putting each of his 25 years of specialized experience to good use.
The dramatic transformation of this empty warehouse space requires craftsmanship, patience and a team of people working tireless hours. Brian's the honcho in charge.
How did you get involved in the project?
An ad for Production Manager that was sent to me by a friend.
What do you see as some of the challenges in mounting a theatrical haunted house?
Where do I begin? This is an extremely aggressive Theatrical endeavor with many moving parts mixed media and requirements. Multiple Actors and separate yet connected Vinettes with groups viewing them sequentially pretty much explains the complexity ;-). And being in charge of the physical Set Build / Construction aspect is a whole separate challenge on its own. Interface with Building owners, L&I, Sub-Contractors, Film Crews, Technical Direction, etc.
What personally interests you about the life of works of Edgar Allan Poe?
I had an art teacher who played Poe stories on a record player during class. I considered it different from some of my other art classes but it gave me quite a bit of background of Poe's style of writing. So it struck me odd and intriguing that I am now working on a project featuring his work and bringing it too life in an ongoing theatrical performance.
